Fishing Report October 2015

October 9-11, 2015

Another beautiful fall weekend up here in the Northland on Woman Lake with temperatures in the 70's, fall colors nearing peak, water temperatures hovering at 60 degrees, and hungry walleyes settled into their typical fall patterns. I am finding plenty of 15-19 inch walleyes scattered on the main lake bars and breaks 19-21 feet deep. The fishing season is winding down for me now, as pheasant, duck, and deer hunting begins to take center stage. My two Brittany Spaniels are demanding to get out of the fishing boat and into the fields for their favorite time of the year. I hope to get out to chase the walleyes at least one more weekend this month.  If not, you will next hear from me in early December when we have our first walkable ice.  Overall, I would have to rate the 2015 walleye fishing season as one of the best in the last 10 years.

This is my favorite time of the year as the fishing are biting, the ducks are flying, the air is crisp and clear, and for the most part you have the lake to yourself.  We have been blessed with some lovely warmer weather this fall season, at least so far, and the fishing conditions have been very pleasant, with the exception of a few windy days.  The fall colors seem to be very late in arriving, but it is beautiful around Woman Lake right now, with more vibrant colors yet to come.  The walleye patterns have not changed in the last couple weeks, so they are not hard to find and catch right now.
