Fishing Report June 2025
June 27, 2025
Weather wise we remain in some kind of wet pattern with a chance of rain most every day lately, which is OK because we need the rain. The walleyes don't seem to mind and they have finally started showing up on structure in the main lake basin (large bars, flats, reefs, sunken islands, and rock structures). They are also readily taking leeches and crawlers for bait, instead of preferring minnows. There are still plenty of walleyes still hanging out on shore related structures, but now you can find walleyes distributed throughout the entire Woman Lake basin. Be careful when boating around and keep an eye out for our tiny little black loon chicks, as they cannot dive yet to avoid your boat. We have quite a few adult loon pairs on the lake now tending to their chicks, which means feeding them almost constantly for a few weeks. Once the chicks feathers turn a fuzzy gray color, they are capable of making shallow dives.

We experienced rain, damp and cool weather this week, but the walleye fishing has remained solid when we've had fishable weather. We are catching nice walleyes on shore related structure, 17 feet deep in some locations, and 23-24 feet deep in others, using redtail chubs on a live bait rig. We have caught some bigger northern pike at the same time. Surface water temps crep up over the mid 60 degree range today, and it may likely get higher with the warm weather forecast for the coming weekend. It is a great time to get out fishing!

The cold front moved through and the walleye bite remains decent. There does not appear to be much affect from the earlier mayfly hatch. The surface water cooled down a few degrees, but now has heated back up to 64 degrees. We caught our fish today, on shoreline related structure in 17-18 feet of water, again using redtail minnows on a live bait rig. Within the next week or so, we will see some walleyes begin to migrate away from the shoreline structure out to bottom structure on the main lake basin. We will also likely see the walleye's preferred bait begin to shift to leeches or crawlers. You can check out photos of some of our fish on the "Catch Photos" section of this website.

Woman Lake experienced it's first mayfly hatch of the 2025 fishing season yesterday, however it did not significanly impact the walleye fishing today, as we enjoyed a decent bite. We caught a nice batch of 15-19 inch walleyes on a wide shore related sand bar in 17 feet of water, fishing shiners and redtails on live bait rigs. Surface water temperatures reached 64 degrees in today's heat, but will likley drop a few degrees after tonight's cold front moves through. So far this fishing season, we have experienced a decent walleye bite every day we have had nice fishing weather. Get out on the water, as the best fishing of the season is upon us.
