Fishing Report October 2024
October 8, 2024
Woman Lake enjoyed yet another spectacular Northern Lights show last night 10/7/24. Brilliant reds and greens in dynamic pulsating bars that started showing around 11 pm and lasted until 4 am or later (I went to bed). The lights extended from horizon to horizon east to west. I will post a few photos in the "Catch Photos" section.

The hot walleye bite has continued for those days when the weather cooperates. We are finding that fish are holding on traditional shoreline related breaks and points in 16-18 feet of water, and readily hitting redtail chubs on live bait rigs. Fish slow, the bites are subtle, but you can get plenty of them. Water temperatures are finally dropping with the colder nights, yesterdays surface reading was 64 degrees, still warm for this time of year. I suspect this bite will continue as long as the weather holds reasonably steady, but a big storm or cold snap would certainly change things up. The young loons are still plentiful on Woman Lake but they will gradually start to depart this month, heading for the Gulf Coast. There is a forecast for the northern lights tonight, but it may be to cloudy to see much. We sure had some amazing northern lights displays this year, best I have ever seen.
ObeWan Guide Service Notice:
I have now concluded my walleye guiding services for the 2024 fishing season, a little earlier than normal, so I can take time to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary with my wonderful wife Linda. My Britany Spaniel, Jersey, is also begging to start pheasant hunting, so I will be doing lots of that this fall, as well. November brings deer hunting which I always enjoy, and before you know it we will have walkable ice in early December, time to chase the walleyes again. It was a truly wonderful and busy 2024 fishing season, and I would like to heartily thank each of you who fished with me this year. We fought the spring rains and winds for a while, and yet we caught an amazing number of real nice walleyes over the season, as well as many bass, huge bluegills, slab crappies, and northern pike, including numerous monster size smallmouth bass. Woman Lake remains a very healthy and balanced walleye fishery and I expect this excellent fishing will continue for years to come. I may post a few new photos of hunting or wildlife observations over the fall, or maybe even more photos of the northern lights, if we are lucky enough to see them. I certainly hope I get the opportunity to fish with all of you again. See you on the water in 2025.
Good Luck and Good Fishing - ObeWan
