Fishing Report April 2024
April 5, 2024
The ice went out on Woman Lake earlier this week (on Sunday or Monday), one of the earliest ice outs I have witnessed. My boat docks are already installed. thanks to Mike Prososki and his crew. The weather will now determine how the fish react to this development. Typically, the walleye run on the Boy River and the DNR stripping operation (just upstream from Bunge Bay) takes place sometime in the April 10-20 window, often while the lake is still ice covered. The spawning run may occur a few days earlier this year, if the water temperatures warm early. I hope to be down at the DNR trap nets to witness the walleye spawn progress. Depending upon when the waters warm up to the 50 degree range, in the shallow black bottom bays, we may have an extended spring hot crappie bite. I hope to be there for that potentiality as well. Looking forward to a great open water fishing season.
