Fishing Report July 2023
July 29, 2023
The Woman Lake walleyes have finally reached their traditional peak summer locations in the main lake basin, about 30 days later than normal. This has certainly been anything but a "normal" year from a water standpoint with very late ice out, ultra clear water, high water levels to low water levels, high water temperatures, extreme heat, etc. We are finding nice size walleyes 18-21 inches in length on mid-lake humps and reefs mostly in 16-18 feet of water but some as deep as 24 feet, and catching them on leeches. We are also starting to see a few of the monster size bluegills on this same structure. Trolling for northern pike is effective right now near the cabbage beds, either with spoons or crankbaits, and trolling over the sand flats at night for walleyes is also an effective approach. I am finally back in my boat again, so give me a holler if you have any fishing questions, or wish to go fishing with me. I had to cancel a few guided fishing trips during my unexpected stay in Illinois and I apologize for the inconvenience. Hopefully we can reschedule for a later date.

As you can see, I have not posted any fishing reports from late June until now, as I needed to spend that time in central Illinois helping my 96 year old mother. I was also unable to offer fishing guide trips during that timeframe. I have now returned to Minnesota and hope to start fishing and guiding sometime next week, after catching up on cabin chores and maintenance. I apologize for my absence for over 3 weeks, but I will be back in my boat very shortly. Thank you for your understanding.
